  8. my linux distribution is ready. It is called teTeX (te for my name :-)
  9. and I just uploaded the distribution at sunsite.
  10.  
  11. Its mostly the web2c package, all your dvi-drivers, lots of inputs
  12. from CTAN. The package has the selfdir stuff and some nice scripts
  13. written by me (e.g. an installation script and a configuration script).
  14. And of course, I tried to be somehow TDS conformant (but I am sure, I
  15. did not get every file to its correct location).

  17. I have announced the teTeX to comp.os.linux.announce and comp.text.tex,
  18. but I think the tex-k people are propably interested, too. I am not sure,
  19. whether my teTeX announce would be off-topic on the tex-k mailing list.

  39. This is the announce of teTeX -- a complete TeX distribution for Linux.
  40. This distribution is newly uploaded to

  48. To install teTeX, you need to download at least the base1 and base2 disks.
  49. Besides these, there exists a goodies series (3 disks) with additional
  50. packages (texinfo, makeindex, fonts, 4 MB of documentation (!), xtexsh
  51. and more) and the sources of the binaries.

  53. teTeX comes along with an installation and a configuration script.

  61.  Here - in short - the main features of teTeX, as listed in the file

  68.   filesystem (e.g. /usr/TeX or /usr/local/tex). You do not
  69.   need to set any environment variable as long as you keep

  76. - fast file searching. web2c was patched to work with kpathsea-2.4.

  115.     - use existing .pk-fonts from a different location (set PKFONTS
  116.       variable, or edit the run-time config file texmf.cnf)
  117.     - copy existing .pk-fonts into the teTeX hierarchy (I provided
  118.       a script fontimport for that purpose)
  119.     - generate all CM and/or DC fonts in a batch job (allcm, alldc)
  120.     - generate .pk fonts automatically when they are needed (MakeTeXPK)
